Recorded at Leeds College of Music in January 2020 with up-and-coming electronic producer Rufus CB, 'Orbifolia' reflects a contemplation of current society and its relation to a dystopian future that seems ever present.

“The lyrics reflect on events and feelings of personal, societal and cultural disillusionment” explains vocalist and bassist Kyle Ellerbeck. “Though in response to this, people who relate to each other on the grounds of disillusionment often create things of real beauty and genius”.

Named after a viper species native to the Ryukyu Islands, himehabu is a Leeds-based 5-piece slithering between influences of jazz, ambient, and 70s funk and psychedelia. Just as the himehabu sheds its skin for new growth, the band take the same approach to their music – they remove the concept of genre and jam with a freedom to push everyone towards their most creative selves. The process repeats and evolves over time, and what emerges is a wave of deep grooves and boundless ambition.

Whether drifting through halcyon moods or growling with punkish freneticism, himehabu inject strong rhythms laced with a distinctly psych-rock energy.
